Morgan Beckford
Soprano, Morgan Beckford, hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, has a passion for singing that has led her to a variety of genres, including opera, musical theater, jazz, acoustic soul, and more. While completing her studies at the University of Texas at Austin and University of Maryland-College Park, she performed in such roles as Mrs. McLean in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah, Cafe Olay in Duke Ellington’s Queenie Pie, and Second Lady/Second Spirit in Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Stage credits include Daniela in In the Heights at Hattiloo Theater (Memphis, TN), Abioye in The Golden Fruit by CDL Productions (Memphis, TN), and Hecate in The Haunt with Petrichor (Cambridge, MA). As a soloist, Morgan performed with Boston’s New Gallery Concert Series in fall 2023, where she presented H. Leslie Adams’ “Night Songs” and “The Still Want To Kill Us’ by Daniel Bernard Roumain in collaboration with faculty at Longy School of Music and Middlebury College. Last spring, she also presented a lecture recital as part of the Cambridge Public Library’s Sacred Songs and Rituals series, where she explored the evolution of the spiritual from the early 1800s to the 21st century. Other engagements also include collaborations with the Community Music Center of Boston, Cassandra Lee and the Acoustic Project, and regular Sundays at Trinity Church Boston in Copley Square.
When not onstage, Morgan serves as the Silkroad Connect Director for Silkroad, supporting the education and social impact team through middle school residencies in California, Florida, and Massachusetts. She has held administrative and artistic roles with Opera Memphis, the Memphis Music Initiative, and the Community Music Center of Boston; throughout all of her administrative roles, Morgan has always worked to ensure that her audiences and partners experience equitable, relevant, and excellent programming. In her spare time, Morgan enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering, cooking, and traveling.
